‘Fauréver’ or the double intention of Enrico Pieranunzi, in recording this ‘jazz’ tribute to Gabriel Fauré, to honor the eternal beauty of the works of this great composer while emphasizing the need, in these new modern times, to continue to dream. Over the years Enrico Pieranunzi has developed a relationship of silent complicity with Fauré’s music. Every time he played his barcarolles or nocturnals or when he listened to his chamber music he was left breathless. This is why Bonsaï Music, after producing the two previous albums of the trio he formed with André Ceccarelli and Diego Imbert, immediately agreed to record ‘Fauréver’. In this new project, Enrico Pieranunzi wanted to honor the upcoming 100th anniversary of the disappearance of Gabriel Fauré. To do this, Enrico Pieranunzi set out to reread a large part of Fauré’s music on the piano, to fully immerse himself in it by ‘plunging his hands’ into his sounds, rejoicing once again at the rediscovery of the solutions melodic and harmonic notes of the Maestro. In doing so, an exciting phenomenon of “germination” occurred, whereby other musics were born from his own. A powerful and moving process which can be heard in several titles of this album, such as the Prelude for a lullaby, the formidable Waltz for a pavane, Autour de la sicilienne, Caprice in blue or La nuit, la nuit after the very famous After a dream. The other tracks on the album are the result of a sort of musical game: taking a theme and changing its tempo. Thus, the Maestro’s fourth barcarolle, sensual and fluctuating, became Funkarolle a captivating funky, Mai, one of Fauré’s first works when he was only 16 years old, was transformed into Les fleurs de mai a jazz piece swing; Dolly, a well-known work in the four-hand repertoire, renamed Bonjour Dolly! flirts with the sunshine of an unpredictable Cuban rhythm, while Romance pour un roman is the Jazz-Blues evocation of the Maestro’s tender third Romance sans mots Op. 17. Of course, Enrico Pieranunzi would not have been able to realize this dream of “playing” with the music so loved by the one Claude Debussy called “The Master of Grace” without having at his side the two extraordinary musicians with whom he already has through recorded and published two Jazz & Classic albums in the past, namely André Ceccarelli, Diego Imbert, joined on this occasion by the singer Simona Severini and the great clarinetist. Gabriele Mirabassi who embellished the pieces in which he plays with his dual skills as a great jazz player and a refined classical interpreter. ‘Fauréver’, an invitation to the eternal dream and to the grace of both Gabriel Fauré and Enrico Pieranunzi, here his ambassador.

Enrico Pieranunzi is certainly the only pianist of the music scene who can claim a double filiation jazz and classical. In addition to André Ceccarelli and Diego Imbert, he published in 2016 his album “ménage à trois” which illustrates the coexistence of his wife (classical music) and his mistress (Jazz). After the international success of “ménage à trois”, it was therefore natural for Enrico Pieranunzi, surrounded by these same musical accomplices, to study the work of Claude Debussy on the occasion of the commemoration of the centenary of the disappearance. last on March 25th. This trip with Claude Debussy is disturbing by its beauty, its lyricism, its delicacy and the immense respect that Enrico Pieranunzi dedicates to the latter. In this regard Pieranunzi declares in an open letter to Claude Debussy contained in the libretto of the album: “The ultimate meaning of this letter lies simply in the desire to communicate to you the unconditional admiration that your art has always aroused in me and my faithful musicians friends, an admiration that the intimate frequentation of your compositions for the realization of this album has only strengthened “. Exquisitely illustrated by a work by the artist Emiliano Ponzi who cultivates the mystery and romance of this cult composer, “Monsieur Claude – [A Travel with Claude Debussy]” is certainly the most original jazz project dedicated to Claude Debussy. The marriage of jazz and classical.
