Since its world premiere in Vienna on December 30, 1877, the Second Symphony has become one of Brahms’ most famous works, a bright and buoyant piece, full of sunshine and good cheer.
Volker Hartung conducts the fabulous and inspired St.Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. With his brilliant Cologne New Philharmonic, he moreover recorded a selection of Hungarian Dances in the perfect acoustics of Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle.
