Fabian Müller’s (1964) works have been performed by great musicians of our time such as David Zinman, Andris Nelsons, Sir Roger Norrington, Christopher Hogwood or Steven Isserlis and have been heard in the world’s renowned halls such as Carnegie Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Teatro Colón, St. Petersburg Philharmonie or Tonhalle Zurich.
On this album – which is only released digitally – the Nachtgesänge are heard, which David Zinman premiered in January 2001 in the Tonhalle Zurich together with the mezzo-soprano Malena Ernman. He encouraged the composer to orchestrate the work, which was written in 1993 for mezzo-soprano as well as English horn, horn, harp and string quartet.
The Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra reminds Fabian Müller “somewhat of the doomsday mood before the millennium”. At the same time, however, it is characterised by the “magnificent natural spectacles of the Swedish landscape”, where he often retreated to compose.
